Back to the Dance Floor - At last!

Dance TW Exeter are at last planning to be back on the dance floor!

Little did I know that this time last year when we closed our doors on our 3 venues it would be a year plus till we are dancing again!

The first lockdown was such a strange experience and we all had our own ways of dealing with all the changes that were implemented to the whole of the country.

The Government Guidelines were at first, hard to decipher and as a dance teacher I found so many different ways to read the restrictions. Are we a Social Group, are we an excercise class, and there were more genres that we could have fitted into. This was hard when the lockdown was lifted and we were being encouraged to get back on the floors.

However, first and foremost was the safety of our dancers. As you know we have never turned away those without dance partners and this has very much worked in our favour. We have 3 different groups and they have all made friends and feel that our dance classes are the highlight of their social week.

But what about the dancing? The rules were that you could only mix with those in your own household bubble, this was very challenging for our group so we decided not to return when the first lockdown was relaxed.

Both Tina and myself were watching the internet constantly for guidance for our type of dance class and found that the dance associations that we are affiliated to were very clear - no Ballroom dancing!

We did have a couple of weeks in the Autumn where we were allowed to have couples on the dance floor - from the same bubble and in reduced numbers so Dance Tw Exeter went for it at our Alphington location. We were there all day and we got through 4 classes, Sarah, Tina and myself had to clean, sanitise and make sure that everyone kept the 2 metre distance from others and it worked! We were exhausted at the end but we all felt on a high to be back with all our dancers again. It worked so well that we did it all again the following week.

It was so emotional to see our dancers once again enjoying the music and the dancing and they all left very happy. With mental health awareness in the news so much at this time we felt great to have helped to make a difference to peoples well being.

So all that said it was not a surprise when once again we were all back in lockdown for a second time and this time being in the late autumn and into the Winter months it seemed dark and dismal to be once again kept to our homes.

The weather makes a huge difference to our moods and it seemed that most people were feeling it more this second time around.

We did keep our groups amused over both Lockdowns with videos of our silly antics and Sarah did a wonderful job with the allotment series Zippy's Lot which has started its second season as so many people enjoyed the garden advice and tips. We also held a weekly Zoom quiz hosted by Sarah, with prizes for the winners and interactive on line Duck races to enjoy. We even had a few theme weeks for people to dress up and everyone threw themselves fully into the fun.

So when are we getting some good news? Well here it is........

We are hoping, if all goes to plan with the Government Guidelines to be back with our classes on the following dates.

16th June 2021 - America Hall, Pinhoe.

24th June 2021 - Alphington, Ide Lane Village Hall.

1st July 2021 - Newton St Cyres, Parish Hall.

Times are yet to be decided but we will contact everyone nearer the time. If you are reading this and not yet attending one of our classes then get in touch and get your name down for one of the classes above as we will keep an eye on numbers attending our classes so we are not too overcrowded as still want to adhere to social distancing where we need to.

We are so looking forward to getting back to our classes but they will be different from before. We will still have to be aware of others around us and refreshments will not be available when we first get back to the halls.

If you have any questions or concerns please get in touch and we can hopefully answer any questions you may have.

Wendy, Sarah & Tina are so looking forward to seeing you all again.

Keeeeeeep Dancing!
